New season, new players, new division.
The girls started the season as a division 1 team with a tricky away trip to Welwyn United.
A starting line up of Emily in goal, Edith, Eva and Gabi in defence with a midfield two of Bea G and Olivia. The front three was Bea T, Megan and Roshini. A full bench of Bella, Christina, Elizabeth, Lauren and Violet.
The girls started brightly playing some good passing football with Bea G and Olivia looking to control the midfield. Unfortunately it wasn’t long before Bea G fell awkwardly and was forced to make a trip to A&E with a broken finger.
Violet came on and settled into her midfield role. Emily was getting good distance with her kicks and Bea T, Megan and Roshini battled hard but were unable to get a shot away.
At the other end, Edith, Eva and Gabi looked comfortable stopping any attacks of significance.
Lauren was brought on to the left wing and tried to take on defenders and put in some testing crosses.
Bella and Christina came on in defence and continued to hold up the wingers with Elizabeth going to right wing making some trademark runs.
Welwyn began to dominate towards the end of the first half with a number of corners which were defended well by the girls.
The second half saw Emily pull off a string of saves to earn her both opposition and our player of the match.
The girls were resolute in defence with all 5 who played there doing their job to perfection.
So we start with a draw but importantly a clean sheet to give the girls belief.
