Not necessarily a must win game but not far off it.

The message was clear before the match to keep possession more and get as many shots away as possible. Something we hadn’t been doing enough of in the first two games.

We started with Alana in goal with a back four of Bella, Diya, Poppy and Taylor. A midfield three of Alice, Lucy and Sophia with a front three of Alexia, Isabelle and Lexi. Ruby and Zara were subs.

The message got through as Lucy hit the bar in the first few minutes quickly followed by a shot from Sophia which the keeper tipped over.

The girls played most of the half in the Cheshunt half creating more chances and shots reaching double figures before half time. Alana wasn’t called upon to make any saves due to solid defending from all the back four which Zara joined late in the half. The midfield battle was also won by the girls with Alice and Sophia keeping things under control.

The space for Alexia and Isabelle and later in the half Ruby on the wings caused problems for our visitors.

A goalless first half but promising signs.

The second half started with Cheshunt looking a bit brighter but still no clear cut chance to trouble Alana. Poppy had moved into midfield alongside Alice with Sophia further up the field. They soon regained control of the midfield.

Just before the hour mark Isabelle switched play from left to right to find Alexia who beat her defender before going around the keeper and keeping her cool to score.

Five minutes later it was 2-0 when Alexia started a move passing to Poppy who made a surging run through midfield before playing a defence splitting pass to set up Isabelle to burst into the penalty area and double the lead.

Lexi continued to cause issues for their defence and Ruby was whipping in great corners creating problems for Cheshunt.

Bella, Diya, Taylor and Zara were putting in crunching tackles to keep the ball away from our goal and we saw out a 2-0 win to get the season up and running.
