U14 Girls progress in County Cup

Great teamwork

The girls were in County Cup second round action at home to Potters Bar Crusaders Knights.

A full squad for the first time this season meant the luxury of a full bench.

Alana in goal had a back four of Bella, Diya, Taylor and Zara in front of her. A midfield three of Alexia, Alice and Sophia with a front three of Isabelle, Ruby and Scarlett. Lexi, Lucy, Phoebe and Poppy were subs.

The girls started strongly using the wide areas to get crosses into the box. The midfield started strong.

On 6 minutes Isabelle burst into the penalty area only to be tripped. Alexia calmly dispatched the resulting penalty to put the girls 1-0 up. The girls continued to dominate possession with Alice and Sophia battling in midfield and shots rained down on the Potters Bar goal.

On 26 minutes Taylor won the ball before finding Alexia who played a quick one two with Zara before playing the ball infield to Poppy who the slid the ball into the penalty area for Lucy to beat the keeper and make it 2-0. A great team goal.

The half continued with the girls on top and some pleasing passing with further chances being created the best from Alice and Scarlett.

Three minutes into the second half an Isabelle shot was blocked by a defender but Isabelle continued to press forcing a back pass which Lucy pounced on to score her second and make it put 3-0.

Two minutes later Isabelle drove into the penalty area once again and crossed for Lucy to hit home her hat trick goal and make it 4-0.

Another goal two minutes later when once again Isabelle caused the defence more problems when she was shoved over to win another penalty. This time Lexi smashed it beyond the keeper.

Alice forced a smart save from the keeper with a powerful shot from distance. Phoebe was looking so calm in midfield winning the ball and distributing it sensibly to teammates. Corners were being won and Ruby consistently found the danger area.

On 51 minutes Bella won the ball in her own half and went on a run before unleashing a shot just outside the penalty area which the keeper got a glove to but couldn’t stop it going over the line to make it 6-0.

On 53 minutes another run and cross from Isabelle found Lexi who had a shot blocked but Ruby had come in from her wing to be in the right position to knock in the rebound to make it 7-0.

The final goal came in the 61st minute when Diya went on a long run the length of the pitch before crossing to the waiting Lexi to score her second and finish the match 8-0. There was still time for a well struck free kick from Isabelle but the keeper somehow managed to save it.

A quiet morning for Alana but she kept her focus and was ready when called upon.

An away trip to Panshanger Lionnesses awaits in the next round. A great team performance from the girls.
