Home Sweet Home

With the weather being what it is, we were relieved to finally get our first home game for several weeks. Thanks to the grounds team for this!

We hosted Stevenage Borough and knew from the futsal that they would be a tough side, this proved to be the case and nothing was to be taken for granted. With the skies grey the opposition kicked off and were straight on the offensive, you could tell from the first couple of minutes that the main battle would be in the centre of the pitch. This was the case until a great break and pass from Milly to Olivia which allowed El Cazo the freedom to make one of her amazing runs and slot the ball home to open the scoring. Stevenage read the game well and from this point had Olivia marked, then from some creative passing and a nice finish they scored bringing us level. From here the battle for midfield began in earnest and Stevenage managed to pull away with more great passing and goals. Our girls held their heads up though and we could have had more ourselves thanks to Anna and Eda passing down the wings and slicing through the centre. Half time came and the game continued mainly in the centre until Eda cracked a lovely long distance shot which the goalie got her fingertips to and the ball stopped on the line. This is where the training sessions paid off as Eva was ready for the rebound and smashed the ball into the net. Stevenage came on strong again and if it wasn't for Amelia tackling her socks off and making another fine block we could have conceded again. Hope then took the green jersey from Anna who had kept a clean sheet for the 10minutes that she was in goal and was great in goal herself, especially using her whole area to intercept and claim the ball. Another mention here for Eda and Eva for the lovely linking play which put Eva on the score sheet again. With the game coming to a close, all the girls were resolute and Milly and Anna were vital in holding the middle. Well played to both sides and look forward to visiting Stevenage soon.
