Marching on to Finals Day

Harvesters U16 South were in Challenge Cup action away at Borehamwood Crusaders from the Red Division with a Place at Finals Day at stake.

Borehamwood won the toss and chose to take advantage of kicking down the slope. The boys looked off their usual calm selves and were rushed into stray passes early on but held firm to waves of Borehamwood attacks.

On 18 minutes an unchallenged header from a Borehamwood corner found the back of the net. The boys didn’t let it affect them and began to claw themselves back into the game with some slick passing of their own creating chances just before the half time interval.

The message at half time was that we were still in the game and now had to take advantage of the downhill slope. The boys started on the front foot and were awarded a free kick on the right hand side of the pitch which Sam Mistry swung in only for the ball to beat the keeper and level things at 1-1. Another chance minutes later went just wide.

On 55 minutes, only minutes after being booked, Connor Blight showed sheer determination to burst through the Borehamwood midfield and defence and beat the keeper to put the boys 2-1 ahead. With space now appearing behind the Borehamwood defence a through ball to Shai Coombs on the left wing was drilled in and Sam Mistry tapped home to make it 3-1 on 61 minutes.

The boys controlled the remaining 20 minutes and had further chances but a solid midfield and defence kept Borehamwood at bay. The result sees the boys proceed to the cup final on Finals Day on May 13th.
