Into the semi finals

Harvesters U16 South were in County Cup Quarter Final action away at Bury Rangers Red from the Mid Herts Premier League on what started as a pleasant sunny day.

Playing on a new 4G pitch the boys felt at home and were able to play the passing game that suits them. In the fifth minute Harvesters were awarded a free kick in a dangerous area and Sam Mistry floated in the ball which the Bury keeper fumbled only for Joseph Curran to slot home the opening goal but get injured in the process.

Harvesters were having the better of the possession and midway through the first half the sunshine disappeared and snow began to fall. The conditions didn’t affect the boys and on 29 minutes Nathan Thornton exchanged passes with Sam Mistry who then found Connor Blight who passed to Harry Ruane who slotted in Lucas King to beat a couple of defenders and score to make it 2-0 with what was a fabulous team goal.

Bury Rangers continued to press and before half time Zak Bensissi made a desperate goaline clearance to maintain the two goal advantage at the break.

Five minutes into the second half Sam Mistry delivered a perfect corner for Harry Ruane to head home to put Harvesters 3-0 ahead. Unfortunately two minutes later Bury were awarded a penalty which they scored to make it 3-1. Both teams were looking for another goal and it was Bury who scored it in the 67th minute with a header from a corner.

It was now getting tense but time was running out for Bury and with four minutes of normal time remaining Harry Ruane sealed the win following some great work on the right by Connor Blight who put in a pass for Harry to make it 4-2 to Harvesters.

With four minutes of injury time the job wasn’t over but the defence were resolute and held on for the win and a place in the semi finals.
