Harvesters Leopards vs Maccabi London Blues

On Sunday afternoon, the Leopards played Maccabi London Whites for the 3rd time this season. The previous two encounters were also close and this one was no exception. Playing on the grass for the 1st time this year, the Leopards put on a performance to make the watching mums proud on Mother’s Day.
The game started with good football from both teams, and this continued for the rest of the match. The GK for the Blues was in inspired form and made some wonderful saves from Harris Young and Milo Hegarty. The Leopards stroked the ball around the pitch as if it was a training session. Their 1st goal came from Jonah Howgego, who playing on the left wing was tight against the touchline in the penalty box, with options limited, he dribbled with the ball before beating the keeper at the near post. Daniel Austin and Milo were linking up well on the right and George Small was keeping the midfield tight.
The second goal was a beauty from the boot of Samuel O’Hare. The third goal last week was team goal of the season so far, but this was equally as impressive for different reasons. Jonah, now playing on the right, found himself just inside the Blues half, he got his head up and noticed Sam in space on the edge of the box, then proceeded to cross the ball directly to Sam. As the ball travelled, Sam kept his eye on the ball and let it cross his body before hitting a sweet left foot volley straight past the keeper. Wow, what a goal, and to finish it off a huge smile on his face. Everyone applauded and the away manager and coach joined in.
The second half was equally as close. The opposition goal keeper was once again keeping the Leopards at bay, making fine saves low down from Jack Horne and Milo. At the other end Daniel McKinstry was also playing his part in frustrating the Blues, make some fine saves and being brave at the feet of opponents.
Michael Bird made a charging run down the left wing, before receiving the ball back and sending a shot towards goal. The ball was heading straight for the top corner before the keeper made a spectacular one handed save to deny Michael. That was not the end of Michael’s involvement, in the dying seconds the ball fell lose in the Leopards 6 yard box, just as the striker was about to score, Michael running a full pace, threw himself into the tackle to save a certain goal. Once again the opposition manager was full of praise for the boys. Well done to them all for that performance.
