As is always the case when Chelsea take on Arsenal, the Leopards once again played AC Finchley, in an early morning KO on Sunday, at home.
Games between the the two teams have always been close and this encounter was no different. The visitors started the game strong, closing down the Leopards high up the pitch and not letting them get into a rhythm. After the first 10 minutes the Leopards go into the game and settled down, however chances were few and far between, but the one goal that the Leopards did score was a beauty. Jonah Howgego, playing on the right wing, intercepted a long pass out from the goalkeeper, before controlling it and sending a looping shot over the head of the goalkeeper. Once again Jonah "take a bow".
The second half was not that dissimilar than the 1st, with AC Finchley starting quicker. Although the game was end to end and played at an impressive pace for U9s, goal chances were limited as both teams defended well. The Leopards second goal came from George Small, who collected the ball from just outside the Finchley box, and sent a shot across the GK into the net.
The Leopards pushed forward, taking control of the game for the last 10 minutes and restricting Finchley to long balls. Harris Young found himself in the box, pulled the trigger, sending the ball towards the open goal, only to see the Finchley defender make a wonderful goal line clearance. From the proceeding corner, the Leopards applied more pressure, resulting in five corners on the bounce. The final chance fell to Jack Horne in the last minute, playing at left back, Jack had been pushing forward and linking up well down the left in the second half. In a congested penalty area, the ball came to Jack, and as it when across his body, we were all waiting for him to hit the target, but It wasn't to be Jack's day. To make matters worse, a few moments later he received a heavy tackle on his ankle.
