Cobwebs

Some may have been mistaken for thinking that today was the Leopards first game back after Christmas, as they took on a physical Northwood Red. But as we have seen from some of the Premier League teams this weekend, there are occasions when you just need to grind out a result and move on.
Like all fixtures at this age, it is more about the development and there were some pleasing signs. In defence, Daniel Austin once again having the confidence to take opponents on when playing out from the back, Jack Horne and Michael Bird, being confident in their ability to get back, as they were seen together on the edge of the opponents box in the last few minutes. Jack used Daniel McKinstry on a couple of occasions from the half way line, as the team looked to rebuild from the back and keep possession. In midfield the boys were asked to build on what they had done in training, and showed on a number of occasions that they had taken it in. Finally up front, the boys were asked to take on the shot and be ready for any scraps that came their way, the 3rd goal being testament to this.
The Leopards huffed and puffed to start with and got their rewards after Milo Hegerty scored As we have seen from some of the Premier League teams this weekend, there are occasions when you just need to grind out a performance. Leopards did well to restrict Northwood to the long balls up field, with Dan and Michael dealing with them comfortably. The second Leopards goal came from a long ball clearance from the Northwood GK. The clearance from his drop kick went straight to Jonah Howgego on the LW, who took a touch and sent a looping shot over the keeper and into the net.
The remainder of the 1st half continued in the same vain, but at the beginning of the second half, the Leopards picked up the tempo. Some good exchanges of passing took place in patches and the Leopards could have grabbed a couple more goals before they finally got their 3rd. On two occasions, Harris was put through one on one with the keeper, but both times the GK came out on top. The 3rd came with 8 minutes to go, George Small collected the ball just inside the penalty box, before getting his shot off, the GK made a good save low down but the ball fell kindly to Harris Young, who neatly put it past the GK and defender. That goal taking Harris into double figures for the season. No further goals came for the Leopards, although Samuel O’Hare went close on a couple of occasions.
Well done to the boys.
