St Albans City vs Leopards

The Leopards started 2016 with a friendly against St Albans City on the AWP at Nicholas Breakspear. Despite the weather and the break over Christmas, all turned up eager and raring to go. The general chat during the warm up was over the presents they and their dad’s received, along with admiring new boots, trainers and jackets!
As with previous fixtures against St Albans City, the game was tight and competitive. The first goal for the Leopards came after 12 minutes. Daniel Austin playing out from the back to Milo Hegarty, who then passed to George Small after he had made a run from his CM position to the right wing. George, with his head up, put in an inch perfect cross to pick out Jonah Howgego at the back post. Jonah had ghosted in from the left wing to plant a great header into the back of the net. A wonderful goal that was appreciated by the spectators on the side.
The Leopards second goal came from the new boots of Samuel O'Hare. Milo put in a teasing low cross from the right wing, which took a slight deflection, but still ended up at the feet of Sam. Sam in the middle of the box, calmly passed the ball into the back of the net.
During the break and second half, the rain was still coming down and the wind making temperatures uncomfortable for the boys, but they stuck to their tasks and continued to play in the right way.
Sam got his 19th of the season and second in his new boots, from a well-placed long range shot from outside the box. Sam received the ball from a clearance and sent a shot just inside the post, leaving the goalkeeper no chance to save it. As it was a friendly, players were played in different positions and chopped and changed to keep them warm during the second half.
Well done to all of the boys and their shinny new boots.
