Under Lights

Kicking off at a time more akin for a live TV game and under the floodlights for the first time, added to the excitement of the Leopards fixture away to London Maccabi. Although playing on an AWP, it took the Leopards a while to find their feet and passing game. Maybe it was the delay or just getting used to the pitch markings. The Leopards huffed and puffed in the 1st half but could not break down the strong opposition. George Small went closest when he hit one of his long range shots with pace and accuracy, only for the keeper to tip it onto the bar. Samuel O'Hare also had a couple of chances but for the first time this season could not find the back of the net!
The second half was the best the Leopards have played this season, as they came out firing on all cylinders. The Leopards breakthrough came after Jack Horne playing at LB, played the ball out wide to Jonah Howgego, who took it in his stride and played a through ball to Harris Young. Harris let the ball roll across his body before firing a first time shot past the keeper from outside the box. The Leopards had their tales up and were strong confident in all areas of the pitch. Jonah won the ball in midfield before rifling a shot that dipped under the cross bar. As a certain ex Sky commentator would say, "take a bow son". At the back was Dan Austin sticking in the strong challenges, and like last week, knowing when to dribble out with confidence and strength. Jack Horne winning every header as the long balls came towards him, and Daniel McKinstry making a fantastic triple close range save! Even the Maccabi manager was applauding his bravery. The last Leopards goal was not as elegant as the previous two, but just as impressive for different reasons. Michael Bird playing RB had already had a couple of long runs down the wing, this time however he started with the ball in his on half, before beating a player down the wing and cutting in from the touch line, beating another 2 players and getting a shot / pass off. As the keeper tried to get the ball, it popped out and Jonah got the final touch in a scramble near the goal line. The spectators watching applauding the boys for their performance second half under the lights.
