The U16 South were drawn against Northwood Red of the Red division in the second round of the Challenge Cup. The opening exchanges were fairly even although Northwood scored midway through the half.
Harvesters grew into the match and began to dominate but still trailed 1-0 at half time. The second half started brightly but Northwood were awarded a penalty for handball. Ryan Mason was up to the challenge and pushed it wide. Northwood continued to press and were soon 2-0 up.
No Harvesters head dropped and Harry Ruane was soon on the end of a through ball to pull a goal back. Unfortunately Northwood scored another while Louis was lying injured.
Time was running out but the boys continued to pressurise the opposition and Joe Curran pulled another goal back. Now 3-2 down with 5 minutes to go and Lucas King struck home to equalise at 3-3. There was still time for more chances but the Northwood keeper saved them.
Into extra time and the boys knew they were on top. In the first minute Harry Ruane scored to put Harvesters 4-3 up. A few minutes later it was 5-3 when Harry Ruane curled a fantastic shot from outside the left of the penalty box to get his hat-trick. The boys continued to press and withstood any attacks from Northwood to see the game out.
