Tough opening day for U13 East

The boys got their season going with a very tough game against Broxbourne in the County Cup.

The competition has a habit of pitching teams from different levels and this was no exception. Right from the start is was clear we were up against a very strong outfit. Broxbourne started strongly but Harvesters dug in deep and resisted all the early waves of attack.

Whether it was defenders, midfielders or Oscar in goal, tackles and blocks flew in. It wasn't until the middle of the first half when the first goal went in, and as the heads went down a bit a number of goals followed.

This was a time for character, and slowly the boys got themselves organised and by the end of the half were much more difficult to break down. There was even time for some raids on the Broxbourne goal with one effort being cleared off the line after Flynn Cairns was put clean through.

At half time Harvesters were 7 nil down. The boys were slightly re-organised and reminded to forget the 1st half and focus on their 2nd half performance.

They were always reminded to keep playing out from the back despite the Broxbourne pressure.

They carried out both of these instructions and put in a great second half.

In the 2nd half Broxbourne were limited to 3 further goals but Harvesters scored through Will Walker mid way through the half and had a number of other half chances.

This was a tough start for the boys but they should be proud of the way they dug in and kept going.
