Greek Tragedy

East completed their last home game of the season in disappointing fashion.

It turned out that Sunday was the Greek Easter Sunday, and the Omonia team were definitely enjoying their fair share of luck n their special day.

The game started well and a number of chances were missed before Omonia got lucky from a corner. The ball came through a crowd and hit Max Smith unexpectedly before falling to an Omonia player to shoot into the empty net. Despite the set back the boys pushed hard and again missed a few good chances to equalise. Straight after the halftime re-start an Omonia player struck a nice shot from the right hand side of the box, Oscar got his finger tips to it but it was too strong and Omonia went 2 nil up. At that stage the heads went down for a few minutes but slowly the boys worked their way back into the game gradually putting the opposition on the back foot.

Halfway through the half Flynn surged through on goal and his shot hit the inside of the post and bounced across the goal line, Max's follow up was clearly handled on the line and a penalty was given. The ever reliable Bobby Milner stepped up and shot past the keeper and we were right back in it at 2-1. The old adage about being at your most vulnerable when you have just scored, then came to life. Direct from the kick off a long ball was launched forward which the East defenders struggled to deal with and an Omonia player sneaked in to add a 3rd. More drama was to follow as Bobby was trying to shield the ball backwards he was un-ceremonially barged into Oscar's knee leaving him with a nasty bump and sitting on the touchline for the rest of the game.

Despite continuing to push East couldn't quite make their chances count against a big and strong Omonia team.
