A great 3 - 2 victory in the Cup

Well what a performanace and what a result!!

In the first round of the Spring Shield against a team two divisions higher, Harvesters put in a thrilling performance to win 3 - 2.

The conditions in Southgate were far from perfect but it was thanks to Oakhill Rangers to offer to switch the game that allowed the boys to get a run out. But the conditions gave the boys a different experience which required them to show their guts and physical attributes rver their usual passing game.

The first half was particularly tough kicking up hill and against the wind on a very boggy pitch. But the boys started solidly and soon got to grips with things. Cameron Wilson and Max Smith were particualrly impressive tearing into the opposition at every opportunity. After about 10 minutes the probable goal of our season was scored. Will Walker and Cameron Wilson won the ball in the right, Cam sent a perfect long pass down the wing to Flynn Cairns. Flynn instinctively crossed and Max Tym met the ball on the volley to crack the ball past the keeper. It was a fantastic team goal and by now Oakhill knew they were in for a game.

Alek Wegenek and Niall Watson snuffed out numerous left wing attacks and Bobby Milner kept the defence in order. As usual Oscar Tansley was superb in goal. But despite the heroics Oakhill finally scored with two quick goals shortly before the end of the half.

At half time the instructions were clear. Whilst losing, Harvesters were definately still in the game. And if the boys could use the wind and slope to their advantage, and step up another gear, the game could be there for the taking. And boy, did they follow the instructions perfectly!!

Joe Burgess added a bit of speed on the left and Joseph Kilpatrick and Owen O'Sullivan slotted in as full backs.

Not long into the 2nd half, and a corner was put into his own net by one of the Oakhill players. At 2 -2 Harvesters were starting to take charge. The commitment started rising even further, with all the boys feeding off each other. Then with 15 minutes to go Flynn Cairns struck the 3rd and decisive goal.

It was all hands to the pumps with all the defenders and midfielders throwing themselves into every tackle to prevent Oakhill gaining any momentum.

The game ended 3 - 2 with the boys and all the parents seemingly having had a great time .
