Harvesters overcame a strong St Albans City U12 East team 4 - 0 at Highfield Park to extend their good run of form.
The conditions were very difficult for both teams as the heavy pitch made it really difficult to pass the ball around. Harvesters adapted well though and realised this was a day for battling and effort rather than silky skills. The conditions were particularly difficult for the both goalkeepers and the game swung in Harvesters direction mid-way through the half when a long range Max Tym effort slipped under the keeper to make it one nil.
The first goal gave the boys the belief and momentum and a number of near chances came and went before a shot from Flynn Cairns mirrored the previous goal as it slipped under the keeper into the net to make it 2 nil. Just before the break Harvesters made it 3 as Max Tym wrong footed the keeper from the edge of the box.
Whilst the boys went in 3 nil at half time they knew that a goal in the other direction could still change the balance of the game. So the boys were instructed to keep the game tight and keep a clean sheet which they subsequently followed to perfection.
The 2nd half carried on in the same way as the first half. Bobby Milner was marshalling the defence superbly backed by a solid performance from Oscar in the Harvesters goal. Joseph Kilpatrick slotted in particularly well at right back and St Albans City were limited to very few chances for the rest of the game.
Harvesters created lots of chances at the other end and the game was finally put to bed with 13 minutes to go when Cameron Wilson slotted home a deflected shot.
Well done to the boys and this was a fine way to end the year.
