Lions start the season with a roar

In the September sunshine U8 Lions welcomed Maccabi Green to Oaklands Lane, in their first match of the season, at home. After a monumental first season for the little Lions, expectations were naturally high and the boys were a little nervous, but with a strong opening performance and a growing confidence the Lions certainly didn't disappoint.

The first half opened strongly with new Lion Jack Dracos demonstrating his shooting skills from the outset and Jake Oliver particularly strong in attack.

In the second half, the Lions were rarely challenged with Oliver Jones despatching any attacking balls back down the field, Thibaut Walker making some great runs down the left and Hugh McConnell, so unlucky not to score after some plucky attempts on goal were marginally wide. Jake Oliver in goal made one notable diving save to push a strong Maccabi volley wide.

Jack Burke was on form as usual, battling hard in defence and when up front delivering some superb shots on goal. Jack Armitt also played a part attempting some cheeky shots on goal with his usual skill and aplomb.

A resounding season opener from the Lions who started the season in a determined, positive fashion boding well for a great season ahead.
