Sunny, cold and the usual windy conditions at the Bushey Playing Fields.
Team – Gwen, Mabel, Issy, Alecia, Charlotte, Daisy, Sophie, Meeka. No subs
The ref sporting a neat hair bun signalled the start. Harvesters had the early possession winning attacking throw-ins on the right side with Daisy, Sophie, Meeka and Charlotte combining well.
Garston very quick to counter, hit the bar – an early warning to the girls to be alert at the back
From a free kick, Charlotte scores but it’s adjudged off side and disallowed
Garston switch play to the right side to their No.4 a small, skilful player with quick feet sets off some simple passing to create an opening and a well taken goal to take an early lead – 1-0
Meeka playing the lone striker upfront chasing everything, tussling with their no. 6 all match tackling, winning the ball manages to squeeze a low level cross and Daisy strikes with her left foot to level 1-1
Harvesters corner where our new taker was unveiled in the form of Mabel who sends across the sweetest strike right onto the heart of the box. Such a shame that none of the girls could get on the end of the quality cross – something to work on at training!
After a period of end to end football and Issy making well timed tackles at centre back, the girls gift Garston a goal straight from a goal kick – their no. 3 with a no fuss finish – 2-1
Garston getting stronger, quicker with their passing and movement, flat footing the Harvesters girls, extend their lead with another well taken goal 3-1. Garston creating so much space, hit the bar.
Alecia strong at the back. Charlotte through pass to Meeka who this time gets in front of the No. 6, round the keeper and nets 3-2.
As the away supporters sense a comeback the Garston No. 3 too strong brushes aside the defence to score 4-2 shortly followed by some clever skill and a neat finish from the no. 4 to extend the home teams lead to 5-2 at the break.
Garston No.3 dominating the midfield, bouncing players aside sets up their next goal 6-2
Another quality Mabel corner, Charlotte strikes straight at the keeper. Meeka chasing down every scrap of potential possession, Issy tackling as the last line of defence, Gwen saves and they hit over the bar.
Game starts to flatten off and the quality drops a little, but not for long as Garston back into their groove again, attack straight down the middle to score – 7-2, followed by another after an Alecia/Gwen mix up – 8-2, then 9-2 and finally the No. 4 scores again to cap a fine personal performance, final score 10-2
Girls started brightly and after pulling the score back to 3-2 were in the game but Garston had too much skill, strength and organisation showing their higher league position is well deserved.
