U16 South runners up at Bushey & Oxhey tournament
Harvesters U16 South were in the annual tournament at Bushey & Oxhey in glorious afternoon sunshine.
With 5 round robin matches in a group of 6 teams it was the top 4 that would progres# to the semi finals.
The boys got off to the worst start possible against Bushey Eagles when a charged down clearance in the first minute rebounded into the goal. With the matches only. 15 minutes long it was crucial to get something out of the game. With time running out a slick passing move was finished off by Fazan Uddin to make it 1-1 and a point on the board.
The second match was straight after and the boys played out a 0-0 with Bushey Bears.
Match 3 was against Chigwell and another 0-0 draw leaving the boys on 3 points after 3 matches.
The boys were up against former league opponents Bushey Dragons next and with two well taken goals by Joseph Curran they won 2-0 and were up to 6 points with one match remaining.
Our final match was against St Lawrence and despite being 2-0 up with two minutes to play with goals from Lucas King and Joseph Curran ended up drawing 2-2.
With all the round robin matches played we were third in the group meaning semi final against group winners Chigwell. The boys were on their game immediately and a well struck free kick from Fletcher followed by a goal from Harry Ruane saw the boys progress to the Final with a 2-0 win.
The other semi final went to a penalty shoot out where St Lawrence beat Bushey Bears.
And so to the final against St Lawrence and despite having the better of the match the boys couldn’t score and with time running out it looked like penalties only for St Lawrence to snatch a goal at the death to win 1-0.
An enjoyable afternoon not with the ending we were hoping for but the boys played well.
