U 11 Harvesters Leopards V Belstone
On a bright Autumn morning, the Leopards travelled to Garston to take on Belstone. The boys started on the front foot, scoring in the first few minutes, only for the goal to be chalked off for a trip on the center-half. It did however, set the platform for a strong first period. Louie, George and Archie took the upper hand in midfield, winning the ball back early and turning defense into attack. The breakthrough came halfway through the first half, Sam industriously slid the ball down the channel for Milo, who expertly dispatched the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper. The only disappointment was that no more goals came our way; Milo had another chance pushed round the post by the overworked goalkeeper.
The second half saw the Leopards come under pressure from the resurgent Belstone team, Dan McKinstry saving a one-on-one situation when a goal looked certain. Michael, Ben and Dan Austin had to work very hard, space was at a premium and passes started to go astray. They endeavored to play the right way, eventually forcing the opponents and their high press back towards their own goal. Charlie and Louie ramped up the pressure, and were ably assisted by George, Archie and Jack. Their hard work paid off when Jonah snuck down the right side and squeezed a cross to Harris who swept it in from close range. The boys had managed to wrestle the game back in their favour, the passes were finding their targets and chances came regularly. The final ten minutes saw, Louie and Charlie (on more than one occasion), win the ball back and make something happen. Having won the ball high up the pitch Louie squared it to Milo and he calmly dispatched it into the corner.
The boys probably worked harder today than they needed to, but this is all part of the learning process. Enjoy your week off, rest up, recharge your batteries and get ready to go in two weeks time.
